Relationship-based dog and puppy training rooted in Dog Psychology and focused on creating a calm state of mind.

Our Unique Training Philosophy

Dog looking up at owner for guidance and leadership

At Bark to Balance, our approach to training is a little different.  We believe in a holistic approach to dog training.  Instead of focusing just on obedience commands, our methods focus on creating a calm state of mind, allowing them to learn and thrive. We utilize gentle leash guidance, body language and eye contact to clearly communicate with the dogs the behavior we desire in a way they understand. This helps to foster a trusting relationship between dogs and their owners.

Creating Calm and Well Behaved Canine Companions

If your dog gets overly excited when people come to the door, jumps on you and your guests, barks too much, pulls on the leash, drags you down the street, barks wildly at other dogs, runs out the door or has other behavior issues we can help. Our programs focus on clear communication, simple and effective leash skills, building impulse control, and creating a calm confident dog that looks to you for leadership.  We will show you how to set boundaries and clear expectations to set your dog up for success. If you have a new puppy or dog, starting training early will help prevent future behavior problems. If you're thinking about adding a new dog or puppy to your family, we can help advise you on what breed, temperament and energy level would fit in best with your family and lifestyle. We can also help prepare you for their arrival by advising you on routines, rest time, crate training, housebreaking and feeding rituals so you can hit the ground running before you even bring home your new best friend.

Dog Training

It's never too late!  Even old dogs can learn new tricks.  Does your dog pull on the leash? Bark and pull toward other dogs on the walk? Jump on you and your guests? Run out the door?  Do you feel guilty because you love your dog but just can't take his bad behavior.  We can help take your home from chaos to calm so you can enjoy life with your dog.

Testimonials

Dog in a Sweater Vest

"She literally took our dog who was on the verge of being relocated to another family, into an amazing pet. She has made her calmer, better with kids, and a well behaved dog. Next she is going to tackle training our 4 month old puppy. I would highly recommend her."

Dog

Janine came to our home two times to observe our dog's behavior and our interactions with the dog in various situations and then offered suggestions for us in our leadership role and appropriate correction techniques for our dog. Janine also met us at a dog park and in a local pet store to observe our dog's interactions in different situations. Once again she demonstrated better ways for us to lead and correct our dog to attain the desired "calm mind" state for our dog in these situations with strangers and other dogs. We have been very happy with Janine and her suggestions for training us as leaders in working with our dog.
